Why is there an expiration date printed on the bottom of my shampoo bottle? What could possibly expire?

When any chemicals are mixed, there is a date of expiration that is printed. It's usually in medicines because after a certain amount of time, the chemicals will break down and won't work like they should.





In shampoo, it could just mean that it won't sud right or something like that. Nothing terrible will happen like your hair will turn green or anything, but the chemicals they use in it (to clean) will break down eventually and you won't get the same results. The active ingredient might expire. For example, the moisturizer, the ingredient that makes it do what its advertised to do.

In fact, new studies show that the exp. dates on the bottom of medicine is not as necessary as we all thought. I mean, think about the millions of expensive medications that are thrown away because of bogus exp. dates. I just read this study in the last AARP issue.





I'm not sure about shampoo, but I can speculate that manufacturers want to push products for one. The other are things like chemicals naturally break down, oils separate. Water, alcohols and things evaporate. The rest I guess we'll have the wait for a revlon rep to write us.
